3G iPhone on the Way?

If so, I want one! According to Apple Insider, they are getting closer to having 3G capability in 2008.

Yes, I appear to be the only person without an iPhone (if all of my geeky friends are any indication). I have been stubbornly holding out for 3G. I tend to use my phone mainly as an internet device (web browsing, etc.) when I am outside of wireless zones. At work / home where I spend most of my time, my laptop is always open, on, and usually in my lap. However, when I am out and about, I want quick web access via cell networks, and EDGE service just doesn’t quite cut it.

I would love to have an iPhone, but yes, I continue to hold out for 3G (removable battery with a spare would be nice, but not holding my breath on that one).

It is a Crazy World We Live in!

Five years ago if someone told me that Apple was making a cell phone and thousands of people would wait in line for days to get one, I would have laughed and pronounced them a “crazy person”! Yet, here we are. Some people are trying to sell their spots in line for as much as $5000, ARs Technica is live blogging from the line on Cincinnati, and others are blogging when the UPS truck arrives with the shipment.

I personally know of a number of people currently waiting in line at various stores right now. Am I planning to join them in line? No. I am not giving up my 3G Blackjack for a 2G iPhone when I use the data plan extensively, and I really like having a removable battery for critical devices (I always keep a spare charged battery in my bag!) If the iPhone was 3G with a removable battery, would I be one of those crazy people in line right now? Maybe. 🙂

iPhone Envy

I just bought a Samsung BlackJack in November. It is WAY better than my previous device, the BlackBerry. It looks great, is small and light, has a bigger screen, has better Internet access, and has a camera. Honestly, it’s the first cell phone that I’ve really loved to use. The only drawback is that it runs Windows … it occasionally gets a bit tweaky, which like most Windows devices can only be fixed by a reboot (not a very convenient solution).

Today, I saw the news about the iPhone and developed a serious case of gadget envy. A device with Internet, email, wifi, iPod, even thinner than my BlackJack, easy synchronization with iTunes, and very cool looking. I already have Cingular … now I just need to find an excuse to buy a new device.
