Thank you, Dawn. This is very helpful. I especially like the two triggers: Think about what your mother would say and decide if you want to read what you just did on the frontpage of an important newspaper.

What are your thoughts regarding policies that address non-work related social interactions? Specifically, have you seen/heard about an policies that address the loose coupling of personal and employee dialogues? My company asserts that almost all social media (personal included) can be tied back to the company and is therefore important that all published content be in the interest of the company. It would be great to hear what others have encountered.

Great post Dawn. For most corporations blogging is a scary thing. It feels like they're giving up control. That's why a corporate blogging policy is a good first step.
I've added some of your advice to a marketing wiki list I created: http://whamwiki.com/index.php?title=Creating_a_Corporate_Blogging_Policy

Heh, I think we know why they struggle. Enterprise is all about protecting IP, not sharing, so it's alien. It's a mindset change too.

Jake,

Glad you enjoyed it! The two that you mentioned are huge. It seems like those are the two that most companies seem to struggle with for some reason, too.

Very solid list. My big ones are: 1) don't moderate, it wastes time and kills that immediacy buzz that people want from sharing their opinions, 2) be yourself, personality and identity wise.

Both of these made your list, so I'm feeling pretty good now :)
