Twitter and sxsw

Yes, I was at sxsw last week as you know from the obnoxious and constant tweets about how awesome it was. I also heard a few people talking about how tired they were of hearing about sxsw.

On an unrelated topic, I was playing werewolf with the from the guys at Toonlet last night, and I thought it would be cool to play around with it over lunch today. I came up with this quick sxsw / Twitter comic:

Twitter at sxsw by geekygirldawn

Girl - normal: HOW WAS YOUR WEEK? Bow - normal: I WAS AT SXSW. YOU KNOW,

If only such a script actually existed! :)

Funny, but I actually liked the tweets from SXSW, they kept me up to date with what people found interesting. It was like a real-time update on the attitude of the conference. Yeah, there were too many tweets, and some were either personal or way too personal, but probably 80% of the tweets added flavor to the reports of what was happening and they were faster than blogs.

I like your toonlet. You’ll have to do more.

Todd – I have a Yahoo pipe that with one tweak would have filtered out anything with the text sxsw & austin, which might have filtered some of the noise. It would output rss, so you’d have read twitter in Netvibes :-)

Mike – Thanks! Maybe I will do a few more geeky cartoons. This one really made fun of me – I was the person tweeting like crazy (as you know). I think that secretly a lot of people really liked using Twitter to keep up with sxsw whether they were attending or not.

I was going to comment about SXSW, but I just saw your badge saying you will be speaking at BlogHer. Can I come along? I’m pretty flexible, could probably fit into your extra luggage. :)

missburrows – if you can fit into my luggage, you can come along :-) You should go to a blogher sometime! The one in April is in NYC, and it’s their business-oriented conference. You should think about going to the regular annual conference in July in SF, since it’s a broader conference (and it’s cheaper for us Portlanders to go to SF)!
